Commissioned children’s portraits

Black and white baby and child photographer in London

Commissioned portraits of babies and young children, created in your home by award-winning photojournalist Olivia Harris.

Printed and framed as artwork, not delivered as files

About the work

Moochi Studio creates commissioned black and white portraits of babies and young children - from one year old upwards - photographed in your home in London using a refined studio lighting setup.

These are not documentary snapshots or digital galleries. They are considered, carefully made pieces: one artwork, printed beautifully, framed and built to last for decades.

Olivia Harris brings nearly twenty years of editorial photojournalism experience — working for Time Magazine, The New York Times, Harper's Bazaar, and Bloomberg — into a quieter, more personal space.

Design-led family photography

Monochrome portraits age differently.

Colour photography dates. Black and white removes distraction - and lets the photograph become purely about your child.

Why black and white?

A monochrome portrait made today will look as compelling in thirty years. No background colours, no trend-specific palette, no visual noise.

Timeless, not dated

Empty vertical line on a plain white background.

Without colour, the eye is drawn directly to what matters: the expression, the gesture, the different qualities of your child's character.

Expression over everything

Empty white space with a thin vertical gray line near the left edge.

Black and white photography is the natural home of fine art printing. The tonal range achievable on fibre-based paper is extraordinary — something digital colour cannot replicate.

lives on walls

A monochrome portrait is easy to live with. It works with almost any interior and becomes a natural part of a home rather than a decoration.

The commission process

From first contact to framed artwork on your wall - everything is handled carefully and at your pace.

IN home session

Olivia travels to your London home and sets up a two-light studio. Sessions take around half a day, allowing plenty of unhurried time for your baby or child to settle and be themselves.

printed contact sheet by post

You receive a printed sheet of nine images in the post — not a digital gallery, a physical object — to review quietly and choose from at your own pace.

Gallery-grade fine art prints

Your chosen images are printed using fibre-based photographic paper and carbon-based inks with eleven different blacks. The tonal depth is unlike anything a digital process produces.

bespoke framing and delivery

Choose from a selection of handmade solid wood frames, each glazed with UV-protective, non-reflective museum glass. Your finished portrait is delivered to your home, ready to hang.

questions

Frequently asked questions about black and white baby and child portraits in London

What makes Moochi Studio different from other baby photographers in London?

Olivia Harris is a prize-winning photojournalist with nearly twenty years of editorial experience - not a portrait studio photographer. Her work is commission-based and results in a considered artwork, not a digital package. The process, the printing and the result are all of a different order.

Why shoot black and white portraits of babies and young children?

Black and white removes everything except the child. No background colours, no clothing distractions — just expression, light and character. It also means the portrait ages beautifully, remaining as compelling in twenty years as it is today.

Where does the session take place?

While in studio shoots are available, Olivia shoots most often in your home. She brings a portable two-light studio setup to you, so your baby or child is in a familiar, comfortable environment. This makes for a calmer session and more characterful photographs.

From what age do you photograph?

Moochi Studio works with babies and children from one year old upwards. Olivia has extensive experience photographing young children and is highly skilled at working at their pace.

What do I receive at the end of the process?

A printed contact sheet of nine images arrives by post for you to make your selection. Your chosen artwork is then printed using traditional fine art techniques on fibre-based paper, framed in a bespoke solid wood frame with museum glass, and delivered to your home.

Do you cover all areas of London?

Yes. Olivia works across London for portrait commissions and can also travel further afield across the UK by arrangement.

Do you shoot outside the uk?

Olivia travels to Europe and the Middle East, twice yearly. Get in touch for more information.
